Music video cinematographerJoey Arcisz · music videos, live, and studio

Singers on stage, players in the room, and the gear around them. I shoot music videos, live performance, and studio sessions out of Dallas, and I bring the camera package.

The lanewhy this work, why me

Music work moves at the speed of the performer. A take is a take, stage light changes on the downbeat, and the best moment rarely happens twice. I light for the performance first, then find the frames around it.

I was DP on Kat Hasty's music video and Jose Sandovall's "NOW", directed and shot a UT Dallas Choir studio session, and co-directed, shot, and cut Ryan Bingham's Backstage Pass at Billy Bob's Texas. For Conn-Selmer I produced and shot more than 150 lessons with eight musicians.

Ryan Bingham: Backstage Pass

How I shoot itthe approach on set

01

Stage light

Haze, color, and backlight that move with the song, exposed so the singer holds when the wash goes deep.

02

Rooms and sessions

Studio and rehearsal spaces lit to look like themselves, with the camera kept out of the way of the take.

03

Backstage and around

The gear, the crew, and the minutes before the set, shot as documentary so the story has more than the stage.
